Thomas Rhett at South First Billiards

This evening KRTY brought Thomas Rhett out to South First Billiards in San Jose, CA.

Nate & Tina heard him play in Las Vegas recently and just had to have him come play here! He played an acoustic set including “Whatcha Got in that Cup,” “Beer with Jesus,” “Front Porch Junkie,” & his latest radio single, “Something to Do with My Hands.”

One guy from the crowd wanted him to sing a song his dad, Rhett Akins, made popular, “That Ain’t My Truck.” Rhett went one step further and brought the random audience member to sing with him!

Rhett also sang, “I Ain’t Ready to Quit,” a song he wrote that Jason Aldean recently recorded.

Afterwards, Rhett met all the fans who came out & signed autographs. Seems like a truly decent guy. I wish the best for him & his career.

Elliot Randall & The Deadmen – San Francisco, CA

Elliot Randall & the Dead Horsemen

LIVE 12/2 - The Independent in SF

I listened to Elliot Randall’s Caffeine & Gasoline on their preview site and it sounds worth checking out live. They are playing at the Independent in SF tomorrow night. Hope to see you there!

“Elliot Randall & The Deadmen, an emerging Americana/Outlaw Country band from San Francisco (although Elliot is originally from Charleston, SC). They’ve had a great year in 2010. They independently released their sophomore album “Caffeine & Gasoline” on February 9th and just weeks later debuted on the Americana radio charts at #28. They remained on the charts for seventeen weeks in the top 30. This was in the company of national acts like Patty Griffin, Band of Heathens, Lyle Lovett and the Crazy Heart Soundtrack. They also had the opportunity this year to support many national acts coming through town including Wynonna, Martina McBride, Steve Miller, Reckless Kelly, and the list goes on.” – Dianna Arnspiger, Band Manager

Lets show them a Bay Area welcome and get out to the Independent!

National Finals Rodeo 2010

National Finals RodeoViva Las Vegas! Time for National Finals Rodeo 2010! Wbo’s in?

Finally, after how many years of saying that I’m gonna go to National Finals Rodeo… I found a steal of a deal on a place to stay and decent Southwest Airlines tix! Many thanks go out to my friend who let me use her hotel vacation points to go. If you are looking for flights, Virgin America still has some good prices!

If you haven’t heard about it before, National Finals Rodeo is the most amazing gathering of rodeo lovin, boot & Wranglers wearin, straw & felt hat wearin party that is hosted each year the first week in December. People come from all over the world to experience the rodeo, the tack shows and of course, the after parties!

Tues Dec 7th, I will hop on a plane to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo. Many of my friends are going to show up the next day and we will invade for Cowboy Christmas! I will definitely try to go to the actual rodeo competition while there, but what’s even more fun is to meet people who like country music and rodeo even more so!

The other day I found the official National Finals Rodeo iPhone app, so the only problem I’ll have is figuring out which events to attend. It has all the actual rodeo events, as well as the after parties listed. Yep, I’m a high tech redneck!

Are you going to National Finals Rodeo? What events are you going to? I will be there Tuesday Dec 7th through Saturday Dec 11th, so if you are going, it would be awesome to meet up at one of the after parties or the craps table! Hit me up on Twitter! @ask4adam. #NFR will be the hashtag for the week.

KRTY Radio: I Can Sleep When I’m Dead!

KRTY Radio: I Can Sleep When I'm DeadYes, I am still alive! And yes, this blog still exists!

Since writing herelast, I have practiced on KRTY a few more times and forgot to let y’all know here. Apologies for that. Some of you were listening, requesting songs and staying up past your bedtimes, and for that I thank you!

While staying up past most people’s bedtime and practicing the skills of  a radio DJ are fun and exciting, I must take a break from those activities to focus on some other things in life, such as paying the bills. I know, I know, that sounds really old and boring and “I can sleep when I’m dead.” Some of the things that will be getting more of my attention are CPR classes in San Jose and Ask4Adam.com (where a new site will soon exist).

Before anyone gets any ideas, I’m still with KRTY in event marketing and social media, and there will hopefully be some new and exciting things in that arena, but for now, I am taking a break from learning to be a radio DJ. I am eternally grateful to our Program Director for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow in my radio career.

My hope is that you stick with me on this blog and hear some other tales of intrigue and mystery…or at least some good country fun!

Text COWBOY to 244326 for up to the minute San Jose country events and contests.

Have a great Sunday afternoon and go 49ers! :)

A Random Collection

Tonight at a Meetup called, “blog for money,” Bill Belew has challenged us to find a way to tie together a seemingly random bunch of phrases from each of the blogging participants who are here. So here I go!

Luckily some of my friends are here like Kevin Carney, who would like us to think about remodeling our houses. It’s too bad that I don’t have a house or I would take him up on that. He has a bunch of great looking remodeling ideas on his site.

Also, my buddy Clyde is here and since I’ve seen him twice today, he really is trying to hammer home that I need to change my password. He told a story about a gal who lost 10 years worth of emails and contacts because she had too simply of a password for someone to hack. Oh, and be sure to check out the Space Balls clip at the bottom. Hilarious!

Another guy named Richard showed up and asks us, “Why blog?” Richard is from Union City and seems like a nice guy. Apparently, he writes about writing. His blog is, “a collaborative writing project with the sole purpose of providing writers with all of the tools, training, inspiration and resources [he] can find.”

Across the room is a guy from Santa Clara who works in the world of hard money in California. I that has something to do with commercial property and from what I can tell on his site, even people with poor credit can qualify for this type of loan if the investment makes financial sense. Pretty cool!

Dave is an interesting character who likes to learn Chinese culture and phrases. He also likes to explain English idioms to Chinese readers as well. For example, “Turn a blind eye,” has a sordid past that includes a British war!

Next to me is ElénaMartina, a lady from Peru, who wrote all about arranged marriage in her book called Clinging to Deceit. She has lived in more countries than I have been to and has quite an interesting biography there on her blog.

Of course, what would any meeting be without some people who are focused on the healthy aspects of life! Across from me is Jason, who is working his way to riches by sharing Isagenix and the cleanse for life program.

To my right is Motoko who writes about healthy cooking with Asian and many other different types of food. She has lots of experience and event taught cooking classes at Macy’s!

The phrase I chose was National Finals Rodeo because I’d love to meet more people who like rodeo & country music when I get to NFR. Another one of my goals while in Las Vegas is to get a RedBull baseball cap. Yes, it’s a random goal for my trip, but whoever said I was normal.

This truly is a random collection of people. :)
